Christian Bale, the 34 year-old actor who plays Batman in the newly released The Dark Knight, was arrested in London for allegedly assaulting both his mother and his sister on Monday. Good god! Batman has lost control! The good pepes over at themovieblog speculated that massive quantities of drugs may have been involved, though that sounds just as unlikely as the fact that he’s been arrested for assaulting his own family to begin with. Does this bode ill for the future box office receipts of The Dark Knight? I’m sure it’s not going to help. More importantly, has Bale lost his mind?

Pineapple Express is going to be good, this much I’m assuming. Written by and starring Seth Rogen (and Evan Goldberg, which makes up the writing team that wrote Super Bad), as well as James Franco, this is a gang right out of the Judd Apatow mold. (Don’t forget Franco got his start on Apatow’s short lived Freaks and Geeks.) My only question at this point is just how funny this movie’s going to be. If it’s half as good as Super Bad, then it will still be…pretty good. I’m hoping its goodness equals or excels that of Super Bad. Watch the international trailer. Now!

The new international trailer for Step Brothers is, in a word, funny. Very funny. I haven’t gone in for a lot of the slap-stick comedies that have been released recently (ahem, Love Guru, Zohan) but this movie has some of the signs of eliciting more than just an overpriced ticket. The Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly combo is a hilarious pas de deux, and this trailer gives me much hope for the film. Check it, yo.

Comic book adaptations are almost always box office positive yardage, case in point this past weekend's The Dark Knight eruption. But Comic-book fans can be totally insane too!
Take Watchmen. Once a ground-breaking Graphic Novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, now an anticipated movie from Zach Snyder. This, my friends, is a different breed of comic and it’s going to be interesting how it is received, critiqued, and/or potentially sunk in the fanboy eye. There's been a trailer out for a weekend, and the cult of passionate fans already has the scalpel out and critical glasses on.

The Dark Knight is currently the top-ranked movie on IMDB.com out of over 91,000 votes. Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, Gone With the Wind -- they don't have nothin' on The Dark Knight. Now, as someone who recently watched and loved Dark Knight, I'm not one to hold back when it comes to heaping encomiums upon this most excellent piece of cinema. But, I mean, the best movie ever? Have these 70,000 people seen any other movies? Ever? I mean, geeze.
Ok, so, I guess the above section concludes my poo-pooing Dark Knight. Best movie ever? No. Best comic movie ever? Hands down yes, no debate. It makes every comic book movie that came before it look like sophmoric attempts at lewd entertainment. Batman Begins elevated the entire genre of Comic Movie to another level; Dark Knight demolished the genre and built a new one upon its rubble.
I would really like nothing more right now than to discuss all that I loved and didn't love about the movie but will abstain for at least a day longer, in the hopes that whoever has been so bold and importunate as to not watch the movie will have by...well, tomorrow. IMDB says it's the best movie ever. Take heed!

There are whispers in the wind of a possible sequel to Top Gun. That’s right, people. Top Gun 2 has become a reality – well, it has become possible that it might be a reality. Yes, Tom Cruise would star in it. And rumor has it that Maverick would now be a flight instructor saddled with an unruly female pilot. Give me a second, I have to go and gag myself, lest that noxious poison saturate my soul. I mean, come on. The only way in hell this could turn out to be awesome would be if both Ice Man and Slider also came back – and Maverick got to tell Slider that he stinks. Again. If and only if that happened would there be potential for renewed awesomeness with this idea. I’m going to put 100 million dollars on that not happening. So, for the time being, I’ll just sit back and wait to see if the Scientologist Commander in Chief chooses to get back in the stirrups again.

With Comicon around the corner, you know fanboys will still be arguing over which is better, DC Comics or Marvel Comics. But chances are, it's been a while since you've read either one. No, you haven't picked up an issue of X-men in years, but you sure as hell saw all the movies. That's why the only real way to compare these two titans of tights-wearing heroes is to compare their movies.
