Tonight Austria and Germany battle it out for a place in soccer’s Euro 2008 quarterfinals. It’s a match up with much at stake. According to the LA Times “A loss to Austria would eliminate Germany in the first round for the third consecutive European Championship.” Germany is favored to win however over the weekend Austria took some bragging rights when their female topless soccer team beat Germany 10-5.The event was organized by an internet company and played on sand in front of a mainly male audience. According to the Sydney Morning Herald “The traditional swapping of shirts afterwards was not an option as the six-a-side teams wore nothing but G-strings, with the national colors painted on to their bare skin.”

Quote of the match belongs to German goal keep Jana Bach who said “I was supposed to hold the balls but I really have no idea how to do that”.

The Austrian team was delighted with their win and hope it will inspire their male counterparts to win tonight.
