Memories in a surfboard.

My friend Jorge and went out and caught a few waves this afternoon. Getting the boards waxed up here. There's a long story behind my board. I picked it up in North Carolina when I was there framing beach houses. I took it with me to Illinois where I helped build a seed and grain processing plant, from there to Bozeman Montana, where I worked concrete, then Big Sky where I worked a night security at the ski resort. It's been all over with me, so many places I've lost count. I always carried it with me in the back of my truck or van, on my travels, all over the middle of the continent, through deserts, forests, mountains, and grasslands, thinking that someday I would make it back to one of the coasts and be able to surf again. I did finally make out to the San Francisco area. I spent time in Pacifica, Rockaway Beach, and a little farther north at Stinson Beach. I took the board back inland to the desert, Ridgecrest California, Las Vegas, and then to the middle of the continent with me to Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas for a while. It's finally back out on where it belongs, on the west coast. That board's been with me on so many adventures. It's good to get back out on the water. There's an indescribable peace there.

I almost flagged this post as inappropriate because I'm super jealous whenever someone gets to live so close to the beach! haha!

As usual, thanks for the post...Glad you're able to get some surfing in! I'm getting away next month and headed towards the beach too...Charleston SC...I love it there...All of the history, plus the beaches are nice too...Wish I could stay more than the week I'm planning, but hey, it's better than not going at all and I'm totally looking forward to the time off!

Thanks for sharing the pics and the words!

We seem to have a theme happening among E's readers... I'm leaving tomorrow morning at Zero-Dark-30 for NC. No surfing, sorry. Lots of kayaking though, when I'm not training for the Outer Banks Marathon in Nov. I have a 3-day paddle of the coast planned. You're right Evan. It is indescribably peaceful out there.

Well, actually I have to dodge the gators as I paddle from my put-in, down a creek, to the ICW. THEN it gets peaceful.

I loved the pictures in the last few posts. And you really know how to bring the pics to life! Write a book, would you please.

If you're up to it, in a future post could you give us your thoughts on the post-fight antics some fighters engage in. My personal opinion: It's Hubris. I'm not just refering to UFC 87 and the Lesnar Show. - Grove, Rampage and others come to mind. Does it cheapen the sport? Make it more entertainment than sport? Your thoughts, personal philosophy?

Seems you're fitting in just fine in Oceanside! Did you go to the surfing contest this weekend? Thinking about checking it out tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your life.
